At noon in Samaria, a tired Savior sat down on Jacob's well -- and the longest conversation in the Gospels began. A Samaritan woman with five husbands came to draw water, and Jesus offered her living water: water she would never thirst after again, becoming in her a well springing up into everlasting life (John 4:5-29).

The Woman at the Well Made Simple is a Bible-first walk through John 4, verse by verse. Twelve devotional chapters trace the whole encounter: the divine appointment ("he must needs go through Samaria"), the weary Savior, the gift of God, the wall of shame, the great thirst-quenching promise, the finger on the wound ("go, call thy husband"), true worship in spirit and in truth, the great "I AM," the abandoned waterpot, the testimony ("come, see a man"), and the white harvest at Sychar -- and then your own sixth hour, with a five-point pattern for leaving your waterpot and telling your city.

Explicitly Trinitarian: the Father whom we worship, Jesus Christ -- Son of God and Son of Man, Lord and Savior -- who met her at the well, and the Holy Spirit who alone turns thirsty sinners into living wells. Every prayer is to the Father, through Jesus Christ, by the Holy Spirit. Freedom from every broken cistern comes by the Spirit's power, never by willpower alone.
