The Chair
Some nights,
finding a seat is all the prayer you have.
The Chair follows a man into the back of a room,
his coat on his knees and his words out of reach.
He has been strong all day.
Then somebody sings what he couldn’t say.
“I had no words.
The room had a few.”
This is a prayer song about missing people,
carrying hurt, and letting yourself rest in the company of ordinary voices.
Nobody needs an explanation.
There is somewhere to sit, music to listen to,
and a little room for love.
For the ones we love beyond our reach.
For the words we haven’t learned to speak.
For a moment when breathing is enough.
The song leaves space for tears, for forgiveness still finding its beginning, and for keeping the love without carrying every part of the weight.
“Tonight my prayer is sitting in this chair.”
