Well written account of one of Australia's most celebrated 1st Australian Infantry Force (AIF) units. Raised at Randwick (NSW) in August 1914 and landed in Gallipoli on 25 April 1915. After bitter fighting at Lone Pine and evacuation, the Bn travelled to the Western Front in 1916. The Bn fought in a number of the worst battles of the period - Pozieres, Bullecourt, Ypres, Passchendaele, and the Hindenburg Line. Includes maps  and illustrations. Appendices, unit nominal roll (with details of fatal casualties), Honours and awards (with many entries accompanied by a photograph of the recipient), and notes on Battle Honours.
