My story is not unique; there are about 2.7 million children with an incarcerated parent in a U.S. jail facility. If formerly incarcerated people are accounted for, then approximately 5 million children in the United States have experienced parental incarceration at some point in their lives. You, too, may know someone incarcerated who has left children behind. Children of incarcerated parents face life differently. I wrote this song to express the life I had growing up inside the system of incarceration. It may have been a life of phone calls, letters, and visits, but there was also extreme love.
