This 4-week Talk for Writing narrative unit is based on the model text The Canal and is designed for Key Stage 2 / upper primary learners.

The unit focuses on warning stories, with a strong emphasis on setting, atmosphere, suspense, and tension. Pupils explore how writers hint at danger, build unease, and create a powerful sense of place through descriptive language and narrative structure.
