The fishing huts of the Banyoles Lake are 20 small buildings built on the eastern shore of the lake, on the city side. Their construction began in the mid-19th century and continued until 1931, when the City Council banned the construction of new ones. At first, they had a purely practical function and were used for fishing. Later, in the 1880s, when people began to visit the lake to admire the beauty of the landscape and to practice recreational and sports activities, the fishing huts evolved by increasing their surface area in order to store one or two boats, bathe in them and even stay there. The different dimensions and architectural forms became a sign of wealth and social class of the Banyoles bourgeoisie.
