“Family Portrait” tells the story of an emu father caring for his children on his own, reflecting the way emu mothers are independent and often continue on their own journey.

The colours of golden orange, sky blue, and white were chosen to represent the warmth of the sun and the open Country where emus walk freely.

This story is inspired by the animals and landscapes of my Anmatyerr homelands. Through this piece, I hope people feel the strength of a father’s love, the freedom of Country, and the deep connection between family and land.
