The book has been designed to guide those who are working in the field of groundwater development and management. Systematic, scientific and prudent planning has to be done before implementation. It is observed that mostly engineers and their support staff are involved in this work. Rajeev Gandhi Watershed Mission, Public Health Engineering Department (PHED), Rural Engineering Department (RES), Forest department Panchayats, etc. are presently working in the field of groundwater development including roof water harvesting. Different artificial recharge structures are being constructed by these Departments. For reasons unknown, Geohydrologists are not actively involved in this work. Actually, the planning should be done by geohydrologists after intensive studies and implementation should be done by engineers. Looking at the present scenario, an attempt has been made in this book to simplify the methodology of groundwater planning and development so that non-geology persons can also understand the modulus operandi and work accordingly. Especially, it can be a base for the dream project “Jal Jeevan Mission-2024”. 5 Technical terminology has been simplified and explained, wherever required. For the generation of various maps and GIS studies, help has to be taken of an expert. This work is highly technical, but proper planning can only be done on the basis of these thematic and GIS maps. I am confident that this book will be very useful for those who are actually working in the field of groundwater development and management.
