Three Novels. One Regiment.

The 24th Infantry Regiment served the United States from 1869 to 1951. The Deuce Four Trilogy follows its final years through the eyes of a private, a lieutenant and a first sergeant, from the last peacetime spring in Japan to the day the regiment was dissolved, and on to the reckoning that came decades later.

Book One: Our Own Little World. Gifu, Japan, 1949. Camp Majestic, the band and the ballfield, a town that knows the men by name, and the first American victory of the Korean War at Yech’on.

Book Two: Battle Mountain. Korea, summer 1950. Sangju, the Pusan Perimeter, a mountain lost and retaken again and again, the Medal of Honor of Pfc. William Thompson, and the file that followed: the investigations, the courts-martial, and a sentence of death.

Book Three: The Last Regiment. October 1950 to October 1951. Kunu-ri, Thurgood Marshall’s investigation, the Han and the Hant’an, Sgt. Cornelius Charlton at Chipo-ri, and the end of the regiment.

Every dated event in these pages is drawn from the record, and each book closes with a full accounting of what is documented and what is invented.
