Collapse – for Saxophone Quartet
Collapse is a contemporary work for saxophone quartet combining high-energy textures with a strong theatrical dimension.
The piece explores states of overload, tension, and breakdown — reflecting societal instability through sonic friction, rhythmic pressure, and dense microtonal writing. At the same time, it incorporates an ironic layer: the chaotic dynamics of urban traffic serve as a performative metaphor for collapse.
The work makes extensive use of:
- quarter-tone trills (clearly notated),
- multiphonics,
- rhythmic fragmentation and layered structures,
- and staged “argument” passages that invite vivid physical interaction between performers.
The premiere was given by the Pressburg Saxophone Quartet in 2026.
Collapse is suited for:
- contemporary chamber music programmes
- festivals with performative focus
- competitions and advanced conservatory ensembles
Instrumentation: Soprano Saxophone, Alto Saxophone, Tenor Saxophone, Baritone Saxophone
Duration: approx. 9 minutes
Score and parts included.
