Efe Osaren is a Nigerian-American Midwife from Houston who is a direct descendant of an Edo Iba Medicine priestess. She has trained in many places throughout the Global South and America over the last decade— from Juárez, Mexico with radical Chicana midwives armed with rebozos and copal, to El Paso with pro-choice practitioners and global health midwives, to sangoma elder midwives in South African who use the moon phases for gestational tracking, to midwives in rural Gulu, Uganda who actively resist the violent intrusion of the medical-industrial complex, to bringing back traditional and educated community workshops in Accra, to Brooklyn with Black American midwives steeped in the traditions of the Grand Midwives of cotton root bark that came before them.
She is the founder of both #DoulaChronicles and Orishé Midwifery, a developing online digital platform for traditional midwifery. These days, she spends her time closer to the equator with her herbal balcony garden — always studying and teaching what she’s learned to others.
