Jenny Little Christmas is a big shawl without the big rows. It’s designed for advents, yarn scraps, or just those who love wrapping up in an enormous shawl, but hate knitting the endless long rows.
And it’s a deceptively simple knit; for all its changing directions, it’s just garter stitch, basic increases and decreases, and the most simple lace you’ll ever come across. We’re talking a 2 stitch repeat; you literally can’t get more simple.
Although much of the shawl uses the same basic stitch patterns and increase or decrease patterns, each day’s section is written out in full, with stitch counts throughout, so you aways know exactly where you are. And with plenty of garter stitch, it’s perfect for unwinding of an eve with a project where your progress is clear.

The shawl is worked seamlessly, in 3 different directions. It begins with a classic top-down triangle in section one, moves to a diagonal-striped rectangle for section 2, and ends with an asymmetric decreasing triangle in section 3. The combination of these shapes makes a large triangle shawl, without the need to work very long rows or seam sections together.
As the shawl has been designed for a yarn advent, the pattern is divided into 24 consecutive days. The schematic shows where these days are within the shawl; if you’re using scraps, or planning to colourblock your shawl, you can simply change yarns at the end of these days according to your yarn choices and amounts.

The shawl has been designed for Adventures
in Yarncraft’s 2022 yarn advent, so each of the 24 sections uses approx. 15g of 4ply yarn. Overall, the shawl uses approx. 360-400g of 4ply yarn, so could be worked with 4 100g skeins of standard 4ply yarn.
Finished size:
As most of the shawl is worked in garter stitch, which can stretch significantly when blocking, the finished size of the shawl depends on how aggressively you choose to block your finished piece.
For reference, the sample has a wingspan of 180cm/72in and a depth of 100cm/40in.
Gauge:
As with the size of the shawl, the gauge depends on how aggressively you choose to block your finished shawl. For reference, the sample’s gauge is 20 st and 40 rows to 4in/10cm.
As the shawl doesn’t need to “fit” the body in the same way a garment does, gauge isn’t vital – but be aware that if yours is significantly different from the sample, you may use more or less yarn than suggested.
