Where the real world

the ends and the possible

 begin

A young aviator finds himself at the precise boundary between two ontological states. Behind him, the geometry of the rational world: a flat ground, a mirrored surface, a sky still obeying the laws of physics. Before him, a landscape that has completely abandoned these laws: clouds sculpted like coral reefs, terrain woven with living colors, a wooden biplane resting on the water that reflects a world it logically cannot contain.

The figure does not hesitate. His posture is that of a man who has already decided: hands loose at his sides, weight forward, gaze fixed on the plane that will transport him to the impossible-to-navigate. The biplane itself, rendered in warm wood grain and burnished struts, belongs to the heroic age of aviation: the time when flight was still an act of daring rather than industrial, when every departure was a small act of defiance against both gravity and certainty.

This is a painting about the courage needed not to fly, but to approach the machine. The adventure, this image insists, begins before the engine turns. It begins the moment a person chooses the dream over the shore.
