You’ll have to excuse the rampant optimism in the naming of this shawl. While the starting point was a graphic pattern with perpendicular lines, the end result is half rainbow, half child’s drawing of the sun. And I couldn’t be happier with it!


Rays & Rainbows is a semicircular shawl knit in two shades of sport weight wool. It combines two colour brioche with garter stitch stripes, for a very squishy end result.


Sizing

One size

Wingspan: 66” (168 cm)

Depth at Centre: 17” (43 cm)


Gauge

On US Size 6 (4 mm) needles, after blocking:

20 sts/ 40 rows in 4” (10 cm) in striped garter stitch.

Gauge is not important for this shawl, but differences in gauge will affect the finished size.


Yarn & Yardage

Main Colour (MC):

Quince & Co Chickadee, sport weight, 100% American wool, 181 yards (166 meters) per 50g skein, OR Any sport-weight yarn that knits to gauge.

Skeins: 3, shown in Egret.

Yardage: 470 yards (430 meters)


Contrast Colour (CC):

Schoppel-Wolle Edition 3, sport weight, 100% Merino Extrafine Superwash wool, 164 yards (150 meters) per 50g ball, OR

Any sport-weight yarn that knits to gauge.

Skeins: 3, shown in #2401 Partly Sunny

Yardage: 390 yards (357 meters)
