Ask a child how they feel and you might get a shrug. Ask about their weather and you get an answer. This kit turns feelings into a daily forecast: a child picks the weather that matches their inside, then picks what they need for that weather. Stormy gets an umbrella. Foggy gets a lighthouse. It pairs with the I Feel, I Need, I Want kit and uses the same token sizes, so the pieces work together.

What's inside (14 pages)

- Teacher guide: how to run a two-minute forecast check-in

- Anchor poster: Feelings Are Like Weather

- Check-in board: wall size, with room for a weather token and a feeling token side by side

- Folder check-in board, for children whose weather is not for the whole class to see

- 12 painted weather tokens in board size: sunny, windy, partly cloudy, cloudy, foggy, rainy, stormy, thundery, snowy, rainbow, clear, pouring

- The same 12 tokens in folder size, plus blank tokens in both sizes

- Forecast strip: my morning forecast, my afternoon forecast

- Dress for the Weather page: what helps for each kind of weather

- Draw and write pages: My Forecast Today, My Weather Changed, Sunshine and Rain Clouds, My Own Weather

- Weekly weather tracker

How it works

Print, laminate, and add Velcro dots or magnets. Check in at morning meeting, after lunch, or both, and let children watch their own weather move across the day. The folder board keeps the same check-in private for children who need it that way.

Formats

US Letter (8.5 x 11 in). Weather tokens come in two sizes: board size and folder size.

One honest note

No weather is bad weather. Rain is not a bad feeling, and sunny is not the goal. The matching ideas in this kit are a place to start, and the blank tokens and My Own Weather page are there because children get to name their own weather.
