A pretty top-down shawl with ruffled edging.
I saw a lady at a spinners guild meeting wearing a gorgeous ruffled shawl made with James Brett Marble. I had some in my stash and also wanted to try Lanas Stop Belt which has more obvious stripes in it’s patterning.
I couldn’t find the pattern she had used (hers was asymetrical and I’m not keen on that kind of shawl). I sat down and played around with shaping and stitches, then added a large ruffle with eyelets at the end. Without the ruffle, the shawl would just about be finished with one ball, but it’s close run and I had such a tiny bit left of the Belt yarn.
Once I added the ruffle, it used a quarter to a third of the second ball, this really made the shawl. It’s a sweetheart shape, which means you add two stitches at the outside of each right side row rather than one
increase on this edge which would create a triangular shawl.
I used a garter tab start to the shawl for a neat edge and no sewing up afterwards. You will need to weave in a couple of ends, but that’s it for the sewing on this one
Yarn weight Bulky / 12 ply (7 wpi) ?
Gauge 8 stitches and 12 rows = 10 cm in lace pattern on 7.5mm needles
Needle size US 13 - 9.0 mm
Yardage 250 - 300 yards (229 - 274 m)
Sizes available One size, adjustable
