The sounds of laughter, the thrum of machines competing for attention, and footsteps sprinting across UV-reactive carpet that glows like spilled starlight. This is Cotton’s lifeblood. The permission to be small again, to tuck your real-world worries into your pockets and forget them just for a little while.
After the accident, people whispered about the fate of the arcade’s owner. A fatal car incident, they said, the kind that should have ended everything. And yet, Cotton came back. Rebuilt. Reforged. Her body now hummed softly beneath the skin, her stomach replaced with a cooling core, synthetic and steady, standing in for the parts that couldn’t be saved. Where flesh failed, machinery took over, and somewhere along the way she became more android than human.
But Cotton didn’t mourn it.
To her, this was just New Game Plus.
