Albanians are a Southeast European people primarily inhabiting Albania, Kosovo, and surrounding regions of the western Balkans. Their origins have long been debated, but most scholars link them to the ancient Illyrians, a group of tribes who lived along the Adriatic coast in antiquity.

Throughout history, Albanians found themselves at the crossroads of empires—Roman, Byzantine, Slavic, and Ottoman. In the Middle Ages, Albanian leaders rose to prominence in defense of their homeland. Among the most celebrated is Gjergj Kastrioti Skanderbeg, who led a decades-long resistance against the Ottoman Empire and became a national hero for Albanians, symbolizing unity and defiance.

Culturally, Albania has preserved a distinct language—Albanian, which forms its own unique branch of the Indo-European family and is seen as a living link to the ancient Illyrians.

For this video, I have gathered the raw genomes of 3 ethnic Albanians from reichlab’s aadr + .HO dataset. I used my trait predictor and betacalc tools to analyze these samples and predict their traits.
