Thematic Statements Scaffold

Theme is one of those skills that sounds simple until you actually try to teach it. This two page scaffold breaks the whole process down into four clear steps so students are not just guessing.

Students identify topics from the text, choose one, explain what the author is saying about it, and expand that into a full thematic statement with a universal truth. A teacher approval step is built in so you can give feedback before students finalize.
