THOUSAND MIRRORS for solo guitar, by Golfam Khayam

Drawing on many years of research into traditional Persian music throughout Iran, as well as her experience with Western classical music, Iranian composer and improviser Golfam Khayam creates contemporary compositions in which these two idioms meet and interact in highly personal ways.

Her work Thousand Mirrors for solo guitar is a particularly vivid expression of this approach. Its intricate ornamentation and modal language, rooted in Persian musical traditions, are integrated into a Western formal framework, creating a compelling dialogue between two distinct musical cultures.
