OLAU MITTENS - English
PATTERN ONLY
OLAU MITTENS
Olau Mittens are a warm pair of mittens in a simple, stylish design.
The mittens are worked from the wrist toward the fingertips. First you knit the ribbed cuff, then increase for the hand. Next, the thumb stitches are put on hold and you continue to the fingertips, where the mitten is closed with decreases. Finally, you pick up stitches and knit the thumb.
The pattern is easy to adjust as you go, so you can customize the length of both the mitten and the thumb to fit your hand.
SIZE: One size. The mittens fit most women's hands, as the length is adjusted while you knit. For a larger, wider fit, such as a man's hand, knit the mitten itself on 4 mm needles.
GAUGE: 22 sts x 34 rows in double rib (k2, p2) on 3 mm needles = 10 x 10 cm (4 x 4 in)
YARN: 100 g Supersoft from Netgarn (50 g = 285 m), or 100 g Drops Lima (50 g = 100 m).
- Supersoft is held double. Find both yarn ends from the skein and hold them together.
NEEDLES:
- 3 mm circular needle with a long cable for magic loop
- 3 mm double-pointed needles
You will also need:
- 3 stitch markers
- A loose piece of string or waste yarn to hold stitches
