Finding the Names — Installment 81 (Roll 10, 1844–1845) — FREE

Installment 81 of Finding the Names continues Roll 10 — New Orleans Inward Manifests, 1844–1845 (National Archives Microfilm Publication M1895, Roll 10, NAID 173900399), images 361–480: 779 people on 61 manifests, transcribed name by name from the original records at the National Archives. The project now stands at 52,567 entries.

Inside: some ships will not leave these pages. The barque Phoenix files three times — her Norfolk sheet photographed twice and transcribed once. The brig Josephine files twice more, fifty people with not one name repeated between the filings. The brig Victorine carries eighty people in four filings; in Slatter's table of 35 the sex column stands entirely blank, printed blank. The brig Kirkwood's two Baltimore manifests are dated March 1844 and carry Maryland's term-service

clause, mothers bracketed with their babies. The schooner Swallow's four were examined and marked "found correct — but they are not landed," and the paper gives no reason. A margin note records that the infant Samison Cary died three days after the Baltimore oath. And the barque Parthian closes the installment twice in April — 65 from Richmond, her last five entries children entered only as "Child," and 51 from Norfolk a week later.
