Employee Engagement & Motivation
Engagement is the most measured and least understood thing on a floor, mostly because it gets confused with satisfaction (how happy someone is) and loyalty (whether they stay). A person can be satisfied, loyal, and completely disengaged — doing the job and nothing past it. What you can act on is narrower: where a specific person sits, and why.
This course makes you read engagement from what people do rather than how they seem, trace it to its actual cause — the work environment, how the job is arranged, or leadership — and then pick the move that fits that person and that cause, instead of the one that would have worked on you.
You will practise:
- Telling engagement apart from satisfaction, loyalty and motivation
- Reading where a person actually sits — from what they do, not how they seem
- Finding which area is driving it: the work environment, how the job is arranged, or leadership and the organisation
- Picking an action that fits the person and the cause, not the one that would have engaged you
