Economics and Personal Finance Emergency Sub Plans - 5 Days No Prep Print and Go
Five full days of substitute-ready economics and personal finance in one no-prep download. The person covering your room almost certainly cannot teach the content, and nothing here asks them to. The two personal-finance days are the heart of the week — paychecks and withholding, tax brackets, budgeting and banking, credit scores, the real cost of a loan, how insurance works, and stocks against bonds — carried by three days of economics that explain why any of it behaves the way it does. Each day is an original nonfiction reading with every answer on the handout, then a page that checks its own answers, and a run sheet tells the substitute exactly what to hand out. It is a full week of coursework, not a folder of activities, and you come back to a complete set of answer keys and a class that kept working.
WHAT'S INCLUDED
- Sub & Teacher Notes run sheet (what to hand out each day, what to print, and why the substitute does not need to grade anything)
- 5 days of student work, two pages per day (70 questions total)
- 5 original nonfiction readings written for this packet, one per day
- 5 complete answer keys, one per day
- Single 17-page PDF: run sheet and student pages first (pages 1-11), an "Answer Keys" divider on page 12, then the keys (pages 13-17) -- print pages 1-11 to hand out the whole week without printing the keys
- PDF bookmarks for one-click navigation by day
- US Letter, low-ink, two-sided printable
WHY A SUBSTITUTE CAN ACTUALLY RUN THIS
- Every question is answered by the reading on the same handout, so a stuck student re-reads the passage instead of asking the sub a subject question
- Every second page checks itself -- answers pair off, spell out a phrase, or fall into a sequence, so a wrong answer is caught by the student, not adjudicated by the sub
- Every day has an "if you finish early" challenge, so nobody runs out of work
- No device, textbook, login, or internet needed
THE 5 DAYS
1. Scarcity, Choice, and How Markets Set Prices -- opportunity cost, supply and demand, and prices as signals (14 questions, answer match)
2. Business, Labor, and Market Structures -- competition, entrepreneurship, wages, and productivity (14 questions, word decoder)
3. The Macro Picture: Output, Prices, and Policy -- GDP, inflation, unemployment, the business cycle, and fiscal and monetary policy (14 questions, sequence path)
4. Personal Finance I: Paychecks, Taxes, Budgets, and Banking -- gross and net pay, withholding and tax brackets, budgeting, banks, and saving (14 questions, answer match)
5. Personal Finance II: Credit, Debt, Insurance, and Investing -- credit scores, the cost of borrowing, how insurance works, and stocks versus bonds (14 questions, word decoder)
Each day stands alone, so they can run in any order or be pulled one at a time.

STANDARDS TOUCHED
CCSS ELA/Literacy: RI.9-10.1 and RH.9-10.4, each earned by a recurring daily slot rather than a one-off — RI.9-10.1 by the literal and inferential questions, every one of which is answered by the passage on the same handout, and RH.9-10.4 by the daily vocabulary-in-context item on the economics and personal-finance terms. Five codes are deliberately not claimed: RI.9-10.4, because its second clause, the impact of word choice on tone, is never asked; RH.9-10.1, because these readings are original, undated and unattributed; RH.9-10.2, because no question asks for a central idea or a summary; RH.9-10.7, because no page carries a chart, graph, table or data set; and the 11-12 band wordings, which add analysis this packet does not ask for. Nothing is listed that the content does not actually do.
