What is in it

Every formula was checked

This pack contains 57 formulas. Before it was published, every one of them was recalculated by a spreadsheet engine and compared against an independent implementation of the same arithmetic written in Python. All 57 agreed to within a cent, and the workbook carries a Verification sheet saying so.

That is an unusual thing to be able to claim about a spreadsheet, and it is the main reason to buy this one rather than download a free template. A formula that looks right and is wrong is worse than no formula at all, because you will act on it.

What each calculator assumes

There is a sheet listing this, because a calculator that hides its assumptions is just a number generator:

• Every working week looks the same. A no-show slot is time you are at work and unpaid. The tax set-aside is a share you enter, not a computed tax.
• Groom time scales with the size and coat multipliers you enter. Time a few real grooms and adjust the multipliers until the minutes match your own clock.
• An add-on is priced only for the minutes it adds to the groom. When to dematt and when to shave down is your judgment and your policy; this sheet prices the time.
• If you groom only from a van, leave salon rent out of the costs on sheet 1 so nothing is counted twice. Drive time is paid at your floor rate. Cost per mile is your estimate, not the IRS standard mileage rate.
• Both arrangements are compared before tax. Payroll tax, benefits, paid time off and any self-employment tax a renter pays are not modeled; ask a tax pro how your arrangement is classified and taxed.
• Each dog takes the minutes you enter and cleanup follows every dog. Add-ons are left out; add their prices to the dog's price if booked.
• Every no-show and late cancel would have paid the price entered. Fees are counted as collected; any you waive come off the recovery.

What this is not
