Example feedback:

Technical Feedback / Mixing:

Hihats:

The shakers audible from 0:00-0:15 should be reduced by at least 3dB. The open hihat entering at 00:15 should be softened by at least 3dB, potentially 5dB, necessitating some trial and error.

Kick:

During breaks without a kick, the initial kick afterward lacks punch and transients in your mixdown. If you're using a compressor on the kick (which seems likely), here's a tip to address the issue: Keep the kick playing continuously, even during kick-less breaks. Mute the kick after the compressor, for instance, using a freeware plugin like Sonalksis FreeG Stereo (https://www.sonalksis.com/freeg.htm). This ensures your kick remains punchy post-breaks.

Arp at 1:00:

The arp sounds too thin with a frequency range limited to 400 Hz to 4 KHz, indicating a potential bandpass filter. To enhance it, consider removing the filter, experimenting with sound design, or opting for a different sound altogether.

Creative Feedback / Structure:

Part from 1:30 to 3:30:

This segment feels overly prolonged. Two options exist:

  • Enhance the part's length by introducing more captivating elements. Vary the bassline, incorporate interesting drum rhythms sporadically, or play with filters on the bassline and drums. Background FX could also contribute. Listen to "Nothing Matters" by Mark Knight ft. Skin (https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=euHGUzYbM2w) for reference.
  • Alternatively, trim the part by one minute for a more engaging experience.

Part 3:45-4:15:

This section lacks dynamism, leaving it somewhat barren. Consider the club atmosphere; envision how people would respond on the dancefloor. Adding more elements or dynamics is crucial.

Creative Feedback / Melodies:

Introduce additional melody elements or variations to maintain interest throughout the 6-7 minute duration. Refer to Andrew Bayer's "England" (https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=3Do63SoEB4g) for inspiration, where the same bassline persists, but additional elements and a second melody are layered after the breakdown.

Creative Feedback / FX:

Certain effects are missing, especially post-breakdowns like 1:00-1:30 (add FX at 1:30) or 3:30-5:00 (consider a more impactful explosion or uplifter at 5:00). Experiment with stopping everything for a quarter-clock, inserting snare samples in the gap to intensify the kick-in at 5:00.
