Honda NSX Type-R 1992
The first generation Honda NSX (New Sportscar eXperimental), marketed as the Acura NSX in North America and Hong Kong, is a 2-seater, mid-engine sports car manufactured by Honda in Japan from 1990 to 2005.
Aimed to balance performance and daily driveability, Honda introduced the NSX Type R (NSX-R) in 1992 for a no-compromise racing experience. Engineers reduced the car’s weight by removing sound deadening, the audio system, spare tire, air conditioning, and traction control, while replacing power leather seats with lightweight carbon-kevlar racing seats by Recaro.
Lighter forged aluminum wheels by Enkei and a titanium shift knob further reduced weight, achieving a final weight of 1,230 kg (2,712 lb). To address oversteer issues, Honda added aluminum brackets for chassis rigidity and replaced the suspension system with stiffer components. The NSX-R featured a stiffer front sway bar and springs, shifting load transfer balance forward to enhance stability during high-speed cornering.
