Relay Nine Goes Dark

By Garran Holtwick

The Relay War — Book 1

A dead relay. An order to withdraw. A casualty count completed before the disaster began.

Commander Mara Dain is preparing to take the aging corvette Tern home when Relay Nine falls silent. A command packet declares a biological emergency and orders her crew out of the corridor. Its routing is authentic. Its hazard and evacuation annexes cannot be verified.

Then a fragment of civilian distress traffic and an impossible timestamp give Dain reason to look closer. Turning back will spend fuel her ship cannot easily replace, bring thirty-two crew members toward an undefined danger, and put her judgment under scrutiny. Leaving may abandon people the official record has already written off.

With communications broken and every maneuver carrying a cost, Dain must determine what happened—and what her small ship can actually do about it.

Relay Nine Goes Dark begins The Relay War, a military science-fiction series about command responsibility, contested evidence and rescue under pressure.
