I’ve always been extremely drawn to the cello and the writing of this piece was a daunting yet moving experience. I had just left Montreal and moved to New Haven, Connecticut to begin my graduate degree at the Yale School of Music. I was far away from everyone and everything I had called home for my entire life and it was a weird transitional time.

VICE explores the anxiety of confusion and uncertainty that we all share. The work places the cello under a microscope to explore extensive and varying sound worlds. The work aims to push the performer to the extents of their physical capabilities and as such should be treated as cathartic expression.
