Should I switch to a Mini Driver?
Here is the truth that nobody tells you in the golf shop: a 460cc driver is designed around maximising ball speed for a player who creates high clubhead speed, typically above 95 mph. If your swing speed has settled into the 70 to
85 mph range, which is very common and completely normal after 55, that enormous face is not helping you as much as the marketing suggests. When swing speed drops, several things change. You are more likely to hit higher on the face, which in a large-headed driver can cause excessive spin and a ballooning shot. Your ability to square the face at impact is affected by the longer shaft. And the sheer size of the head can create a visual anxiety at address that tightens your grip, locks your shoulders, and produces exactly the tentative swing you were trying to avoid.
