The Millennial Kingdom
In The Millennial Kingdom, Michael E.B. Maher presents a detailed biblical exposition of Christ’s thousand-year reign on earth. He begins with the rapture, followed by the judgment of believers and the marriage supper of the Lamb, after which Christ returns with His church to defeat the armies of the Antichrist at Armageddon.
Maher describes the millennial inhabitants: Christ, the church (estimated at 250 million saints), servants from the conquered nations, and unbelievers from the remaining kingdoms. All children are removed before the millennium, and no new births occur during this period. Satan and his angels are bound in the bottomless pit.
The earth is restored, Jerusalem rebuilt, and the temple cleansed. The saints rule the nations with a rod of iron, enforce God’s laws, and receive tribute. Agriculture dominates society; meat, fish, wine, and fruit are consumed. Carnivores remain carnivores. Sin persists, and sacrifices are offered for the unbelieving nations.
At the millennium’s end, Satan is released and deceives Gog and Magog into a final rebellion, which God destroys with fire from heaven. Satan is then cast into the lake of fire. Maher concludes that the millennium demonstrates Christ’s righteous rule before the creation of the new heavens and new earth.
