The Vylette Pochette is a versatile, glamorous little bag that can be dressed up or down depending on your mood! This cute little carrier was designed as an evening or “going out” purse, perfect for wineries or fancy dinners. She also serves extremely well as a little project bag – the standard size holds at least one skein of yarn, and the white sample is slightly taller and holds two. For double duty, she is also an excellent fancy storage bag for sunglasses, jewelry, lingerie, and more!

This bag is worked with a heavier weight yarn on a smaller needle to create structure that will allow the bag to hold its shape. She features two hem options, customizable length, a cinched drawstring closure, a removable bottom insert for stability, and two i-cord loops that allow for interchangeable bag handles, so you can take it from day to night with a quick switch!

Materials
Size 7 & size 4 circular needles, size 4 small circumference needles, stitch marker, sewing tape measure, tapestry needle, cardboard, scissors

Suggested Yarn
For this design, I suggest a single strand of Aran or heavy worsted yarn together with a single strand of mohair together. The mohair is optional, and Aran weight will work fine by itself! You can also try holding 3 strands of fingering or 2 strands of DK together; just ensure that your yarn creates a sufficiently dense fabric so that the bag retains its structure.
Note on fiber content: I recommend a wool/nylon or acrylic blend for this bag to help the bag keep its shape and durabiity. I do NOT recommend yarn with no elasticity or “memory”, such as cotton, bamboo, or other plant fibers.
Note on adjusting yardage: If you plan to add length to the bag body, you should allow for additional yardage as well.

Gauge
22 sts/31 rows in stockinette stitch per 4”x4” (10x10cm) square
Note on gauge: Row gauge is not as important for this design, as length is totally customizable.

Techniques
i-cord, 1x1 tubular cast on, lace (optional), twisted rib (optional), increasing, decreasing, holding stitches, lifeline (optional), blocking, knitting in the round, Kitchener stitch

Bag Handle Suggestions
If you’d like a fully knit bag, the pattern includes instructions for working a twisted i-cord handle. Bag handle options are endless, and you can even use removable purse straps you already own! Both the pearl and chain bag handles pictured in photos were purchased from Etsy. As long as it’s durable, get creative and use whatever you like the look of best! I recommend velvet, fabric, sturdy ribbon, or even leather handles.
