Tauhara
Tauhara is a woollen hat featuring panels of cabled triangles alternating with moss (seed) stitch. A horizontal seam at the peak creates a distinctive silhouette.
The hat can be worked with or without a folded ribbed band, depending on your preferred style and fit. It’s designed for a compact DK yarn and is written in two sizes: XS/S (teen or small adult) and S/M.
The name “Tauhara” comes from a family daytrip to climb Mount Tauhara.
Sizing:
Approximate head circumference:
- Size XS/S 53-55 cm or 20.5 -21.5 inches
- Size S/M 54.5-56.5 cm or 21.5- 22 inches
Yarn:
Tauhara should be knitted with a soft and compact DK yarn with a narrower gauge. Avoid bulky dk yarns. A compact merino yarn (as in the images) gives a nice shine and softness. A wool blend with a little mohair can also be used for a faint halo that softens the look but still provides stich definition.
