Diego Andrés Morales was born in Cleveland, Ohio. He grew up on Saturday morning cartoons, Little League games, and his mother's arepas. He spoke perfect English, logged invoices at a tire shop, and scrolled through dating apps on his lunch break like any other twenty-year-old American kid.
Then ICE came.
A paperwork error—his parents' Colombian nationality, his own missing documents—turned his birth certificate into a fiction. In the space of one afternoon, Diego went from being a U.S. citizen to being "removed." Shuttled through detention centers and blacked-out vans, he was deposited across the Mexican border with seventy-two hours to leave a country that had already decided he didn't belong there.

And at the center of it all, a man named Paul—violent and tender, cruel and protective, broken and breaking—who sees in Diego something he lost long ago, and tries to build a life from the wreckage of two ruined people.
