Original-edition clarifications:

• Page 14: The statement that any expression to the power zero equals 1 needs the usual nonzero-base condition. The calculation x⁶/x⁶ = 1 is valid for x ≠ 0.

• Page 17: The typed student question is 5(2m + 3n), whose expansion is 10m + 15n. The historical worked scan repeats a minus-sign version of that question and gives 10m − 15n. Use the typed question’s plus sign.

• Page 21: The final correction box x = −13/3 is correct. The earlier handwritten working incorrectly expands −2(3x − 7) as −6x + 7 and obtains x = −2. The correct expansion is −6x + 14, so 3x + 11 = −2 and x = −13/3.
