This Spring Robin Art Lesson is a spring bird directed drawing project. Students build the robin shape, add feather textures, draw it holding a worm in a lively spring landscape, and then paint with watercolor or tempera to reveal a wax resist effect.

Alongside the art, students complete reading comprehension, creative writing, reflection, artist statement and critique activities, so it works as a cross-curricular art and literacy lesson about spring migration, nesting birds and seasonal change. It suits elementary classroom teachers, art teachers, homeschool educators and substitute teachers.
