Bookish Socks

This is a top-down sock with a traditional heel flap. It is worked using magic loop; needle 1 will be front of foot/instep/leg, and needle 2 will be back of the foot/leg and heel.

This sock came from a love for the Gilmore Girls. I had a skein of the ‘Rory’ colorway from Legacy Fiber Artz and I found a yellow yarn for the contrast, so the colors are Rory’s school skirt and her backpack. Rory loves to read, so the pattern on the leg/foot mimics books on a bookcase. These are great socks for book lovers or just a great simple texture for your next sock cast on.

Materials:

MC 200-464 yds fingering weight yarn *(Sample uses Legacy Fiber Artz Steel Toes in ‘Rory’.)
CC 70-100 yds fingering weight yarn *(Sample uses The Farmer’s Daughter Fibers Sock Squad Yarn 2020 in ‘April’.)
US #1/2.25mm 32” or longer circular needle, or size needed to obtain gauge
US #1.5/2.5mm 32” or longer circular needle, or one size up from gauge needle
darning needle
stitch marker

Gauge:

34 sts and 44 rnds = 4”/10 cm in pattern in the round on US #1/2.25mm needles

32 sts and 48 rnds = 4”/10cm in st st in the round on US #1/2.25mm needles

Sizes:

Size 1 (2, 3, 4, 5)
8” (8.5”, 9”, 9.5”, 10”) actual foot circumference
7” (7.5”, 8”, 8.5”, 9”) sock circumference
Sock will fit with about 1” negative ease.
