Munch Lunch Tote PDF Sewing Pattern
Munch is a simple but beautiful lunch bag with minimal hardware requirements. It is approximately 8” (20.3cm) tall by 9” (23cm) wide), with a gusset approximately 4.5” (11.5cm) deep. This project has binding on the interior seams, although it would be possible to hack the pattern and use a different method such as birthing on this project if this is your preference (please note the tutorial and corresponding video contain instructions for binding these seams as I believe this to give the best finish for this project). The Munch Tote requires one zipper and pull for the main closure.
Pattern pieces are included for the strap, side tabs and strap bar, although 1” (2.5cm) wide webbing can be substituted for these pieces at your preference.
Munch can be made in a variety of exterior bases including woven cotton, canvas and vinyl. For the lining, I would recommend a waterproof fabric such as PUL or waterproof canvas. It is also possible to use a woven cotton or canvas lining if waterproofing is not a consideration for you. Please do consider your washing and/or food safe lining requirements when choosing bases for this project, and check the fabric manufacturer guidelines if need be.
I recommend interfacing all woven and canvas exterior pieces in full using a medium weight woven interfacing and using a fusible foam or fleece on fabric exterior pieces for added structure and stability. It is possible to use an insulated wadding such as ‘insulbright’ instead of fusible foam/fleece for this project, using either the main pattern pieces (basting to the exterior using a 1/8” (3mm) seam allowance, or the fusible foam/fleece pieces (attaching with a basting spray or fabric adhesive), and instructions for doing so are included.
All fabric requirements are contained within the download, along with detailed instructions and photographs. Please note this download contains a printable PDF format pattern and can be printed in both A4 and borderless US letter formats through adobe. Measurements for rectangular pieces are also included.
