This hat design uses a motif that is adapted from my Hyphenated sweater pattern. With one main color and four contrast colors, Hyphenated Hat is ideal for getting creative and using up scrap and leftover yarn.
SIZING
1 (2, 3, 4, 5, 6)
To fit approx size (actual measurements are best):
3-5 Years (6-10 Years, Adult Small, Adult Medium, Adult Large, Adult X-Large)
To fit head circumference:
19 (21, 22, 23, 24, 25)” / 47.5 (52.5, 55, 57.5, 60, 62.5) cm
Finished brim circumference:
15.5 (17.5, 18.5, 19.5, 20.5, 21.5)” / 39 (44, 46.5, 49, 51.5, 54) cm
Intended to fit somewhat snugly with 3.5" / 9 cm negative ease in the brim. Size up for a looser fit. See more sizing info in the Schematic in the photo gallery.
BLOCKED GAUGE
Ribbing: 32 sts and 42 rnds = 4" / 10 cm on US 2 / 2.75 mm needles
Colorwork: 28 sts and 34 rnds = 4" / 10 cm on US 3 / 3.25 mm needles
NEEDLES
Needle size is a suggestion. Please use the needle size that achieves gauge for you.
Ribbing: Size US 2 / 2.75 mm needles: DPNs, small circ needles, 16” / 40 cm circulars, or 32” / 80 cm needles for magic loop
Main: Size US 3 / 3.25 mm needles: DPNs, small circ needles, 16” / 40 cm circulars, or 32” / 80 cm needles for magic loop
NOTIONS
1 unique BOR marker, removable marker, yarn needle
Optional: 3 (4, 4, 4, 5, 5) markers for separating chart reps
Optional: Size US G or H / 4.50 or 5.00 mm crochet hook for provisional cast-on, if preferred
YARN
La Bien Aimée Merino Super Sock (75% superwash merino, 25% nylon) 467 yards / 425 meters per 100-gram skein (for the MC); 93 yards / 85 meters per 20-gram mini skein (for the CCs)
OR any fingering weight yarn that achieves gauge
