Chapter 27: Injection

Perhaps instinctively I knew I was with child, to suggest or assume it, and mention it, but within seconds, minutes, hours of our first copulation with Ahmad, was insane. The witch said as quickly as a vampire heals if wounded - is a directly related phenomenon of how quickly my pregnancy would progress. The witch retrieved Tau's blood vial from my pants pocket as I was paralyzed, in shock, feeling tired, despaired and overwhelmed by it all. She retrieved the needle and connected the vial and stuck me ever so abruptly in my abdomen as if she knew where the fetus was. I gasped and could suddenly feel everything: a surge of warmth - a sharp pain.

The needle punctured through the skin of my abdomen, blood infiltrating through the needle like the pain in the recesses of my mind, overflowing with oceans of confusion and a mild sickness, that tightened like the knot in my stomach, a hardball of worry, stress, anger and pity…at what perhaps this new seedling was to be…

"You being with child will amplify all your senses. It's to help you protect your baby. Just as a human woman's senses become stronger when pregnant to enable her to be more aware of her environment -your senses are the same. It's to help you, not harm you," the witch said.

"I don't want this," I whispered.

"That's just fear child, it will come to pass. It's just the shock of it all. You will slip into your new role as a mother quite naturally..." she replied.

"Are you insane?" I half wined. "I'm not in love with either Tau or Ahmad. I only wanted my life back, I did as you asked -this isn't fair," I broke into tears, so emotional all of a sudden.

"Mood swings and overwhelming bouts of emotion are common during this phase. I'm here for you Relica. Everything will be just fine."

I didn't believe her. I was done trusting her. I felt as if I was cast into hell -in another person's body, in another person's life -all over again, screaming in my mind -for me to wake up. I sat on the border of insanity with my feet crossing the line -awaiting legs, hips, torso, chest, shoulders, arms and head to follow. It wouldn't take much more -for me to cross that bridge.

"You rest now," the witch said softly, wrapping a gray blanket around my shoulders as I sat with tears in my eyes and worry and despair heavily imbedded in my expression -unsure of what was to come next.
