Dual Governance: Adapting Corporate Governance for Ecosystem Participation
Dual Governance – Adapting Corporate Governance for Ecosystem Participation
by Roland Deiser
This article explores dual governance as a strategic response to the growing importance of business
ecosystems. Traditional corporate governance—optimized for control and stability—often clashes
with the speed, trust, and fluidity required in ecosystems. To bridge this gap, organizations must
empower agile, cross-functional teams, streamline approvals, and redefine key roles at the
internal–external interface. Beyond structural changes, success hinges on cultural shifts toward
openness, collaboration, and co-learning. By aligning internal governance with external dynamics,
companies can accelerate innovation, enhance influence, and lead more effectively across
ecosystem boundaries.
