20 original reading passages for 2nd and 3rd grade: 10 fiction stories + 10 nonfiction texts, each with 5 comprehension questions and an answer key. Print and go.
Every passage is a two-page set. The passage page (about 140-190 words) has the vocabulary word underlined in color and a quick "Think about it" check with lines for a one-sentence summary. The question page asks:
- Main idea: what the passage is mostly about
- Key detail: an answer found right in the text
- Vocabulary in context
- Inference: clues plus what you know
- Written response in complete sentences, with text evidence
Topics: a lemonade stand, honey bees, a missing library book, why leaves change color, a snow-day fort, the frog life cycle, stage nerves, sea otters, a mystery seed, moon phases, desert adaptations, a new kid at school, recycling, a kite that won't fly, hibernating bears, a bake sale mix-up, the human heart, a buried treasure map and volcanoes.
