Journey Shawl

This shawl is a comforting, mediative & restful combination of squishy garter stitch, bright stripes in varying widths, and graphic patterning. Just pick some yarns in shades you love and enjoy the squishy stripy yarny journey until you end up with a large, squishy, bold, wraparound of a shawl.

It is started with just 3 stitches and uses regular increasing at the end of each (RS) row to form a large asymmetrical triangle to be bound off once you have reached a certain number of stitches.

Knitting skills & techniques used: Intermediate: Casting on, binding off, knitting, purling, and slipping stitches purlwise. It involves regular increasing by way of Knit 1 Front & Back.

Materials:

The following yarn usage amount is an approximate guide and is in fact a little over the actual amount I used, as I have applied an approx. 10% buffer of each ball used, plus rounded up the numbers, in view of differences between knitter’s gauge and such, and to give you a few grams room:

Requires approx. 1,468 yards / 1,342 metres Fingering weight yarn.

For the Sample I used: Beehive Yarns, Audrey base, Light Fingering,

(75% Wool – Merino, 25% Manufactured Fibres - Nylon / Polyamide, 100g, 465 yards / 425 meters) in the following colourways as listed below, but any wool based Fingering Weight yarn of choice should work fine.

Yarn A: Gasoline Alley (grey/multi speckle), 512 yards / 468 metres

Yarn B: Fox Tales (Rusty Tonal), 450 yards / 411 metres

Yarn C: Jade Palace (Teal Tonal), 506 yards / 463 metres

Needles: 4mm / US 6 Circular needle (80cm-150cm)

Notions: Tapestry needle / crochet hook to weave in ends.

Gauge: 4” (10 cm) on 4 mm / US 6 needles (after blocking)

24 sts & 46 rows in Garter stitch

Incorrect Gauge can affect finished measurements / yarn usage.

54” / 136cm
