Religion and Mythology clash cataclysmically with one man’s obsession to finish his AFROFuturist Bible. Our protagonist claims that his Bible will transcend all spiritual aspects of human culture and race and bring order to the world. Many people believe he is a supernatural evangelist who knows the good and evil of present-day society and how to best traverse the difficult path to true happiness. His congregations are eager to tear down the walls of a crumbling capitalist civilization. They frequently chant and post online, “AFROFuturism embraces all of humanity and offers visions of a multicultural future. Our future can be booming for all of us.”

His detractors claim he is merely a very talented con man performing fake miracles and false magic. He uses social media and digital tricks to flimflam his audiences worldwide for his personal profit. The lessons and parables he offers could primarily be based on fairytales and ancient faiths. But many of his enemies fear the downfall of the status quo where the rich get richer, and the poor drown in a corrupting ocean of conflicting social beliefs. Control of the minds of humanity is the prize.

Our long-suffering protagonist offers, “I am not an ordained, sanctified oracle. I can’t heal the lame nor bring sight to the blind nor freely offer wisdom to the ignorant . . . but all things have a price.” In a world where people believe in preachers and demigods, angels and titans, he is working desperately to complete his AFROFuturist Bible before everything we see devolves into madness and chaos. He can further his task when supernatural allies from his past return to his side to stop assassination attempts. But then, his oldest enemy, Anansi, the trickster entity, resurfaces to disrupt the final completion of the Bible.

This work of speculative fiction explores some of the complexities of our spiritual beliefs. It ponders, “what if the gods of myth and the gods of religion were entangled and affecting our day-to-day lives; what if we could combine the best of both dogmas to create a new world with better-aligned doctrines to follow.”

But the AFROFuturist Bible may never be completed until everyone contributes to it.
