It is useful if each instrumentalist has a stop watch so as to follow the space-time notation. Timings in the score are approximate; performers do not have to strictly adhere to them; however, they must aim to generally follow them. There should be a spot mic (or equivalent) amplifying each instrument and a sound engineer available to control the amplification of instruments. The sound engineer should ensure that the dynamics in the score are followed as closely as possible. The sound engineer must consider instrumental limitations when controlling the overall balance: for example, clarinet key clicks are naturally quiet; therefore ‘f (poss.)’, when present, does not mean as loud as possible, but as audible as possible with an understanding that it will not reach the stated dynamic.

Percussion I: A4 book of paper (any A4 writing pad is acceptable), retractable pen. Depending on preference,

the percussionist can sit at a small table or on the floor.

Percussion II: A4 book of paper (any A4 writing pad is acceptable), retractable pen, pencil. Depending on preference,

the percussionist can sit at a small table or on the floor.

Piano: the piano must be a grand piano with the lid open or removed. The pianist requires a sheet of A4 paper and a pencil. There should be a spot mic (or equivalent) amplifying the piano strings and a second spot mic amplifying the pedals.

Note to conductor: this score utilises space-time notation. Due to the uneven quantity of material in individual parts, the

‘space’ aspect, within each bar, is general: it is approximate and relative to individual parts.

Depending on preference, the movements can immediately follow on from each other to create one

continuous piece, or individual movements can be performed separately (either within the same performance

or on separate occasions).
