THE RECORD: Fragment 003 — On Travellers
The Record contains more traveller entries than any other classification.
Fragment 003 is the third release in THE RECORD series — classified documents from the Inner Marches Archive, curated by the Watcher.
This fragment covers:
— WHO ENTERS
Entry is not granted. It is not refused. The Marches begins at the moment the traveller's internal condition crosses into territory the Marches recognises as its own. What the traveller carries on arrival determines what terrain they will find.
— THE LOOP
Misalignment produces loops, not as punishment, but as mechanical consequence. The loop feels like progress while it is occurring. The Record documents travellers who have walked the same stretch of terrain more than a hundred times. Naming the loop compresses it. It does not eliminate it.
— WHO PASSES THROUGH
Alignment opens paths. Not as reward — as reflection. The cost of passage is not set by the Marches. It is the exact thing the traveller least wants to release. The Record has never documented an exception.
— ON RETURN
Return is rare. The Record notates it differently. The returned traveller does not find the same Marches — because they are not the same traveller. What they experience on re-entry is among the Archive's most opaque entries. The silence around it has weight.
