Named using the Dutch term for “reflection,” this hat and the coordinating cowl pattern were inspired by the scenery behind the characters of a PBS murder mystery show set in Amsterdam. The narrow row houses reflected in the water of the canals that run through the city are interpreted in yarn in the colorwork pattern.

This hat is perfect for a new colorwork knitter thanks to its short floats and short pattern repeat, and with two full skeins of yarn, most knitters will have plenty to knit a pair of hats with the colors reversed. Two versions of the chart are provided to make switching colors easy.

To knit this pattern, you need to how how to:
  • knit and purl when working in the round,
  • read and work from a colorwork chart, and
  • do simple knit decreases (k2tog).
