Eight calculators for pricing face painting per hour, per face, at a party and at a festival, from your own year and your own minutes, not from anyone's price list.

Sheet 1 turns the income you want, your costs, cancels, driving and admin into an hourly floor: $76.85 per paid hour in the illustrative example. Sheet 2 costs paint, brushes, sponges and wipes per paid face, spoiled paint and free faces included. Sheet 3 sets an hourly party rate against a per-face price for kids face painting, sheet 4 finds the party minimum with setup and travel, and sheet 5 finds the faces that cover a festival booth fee and your floor. Sheet 6 prices glitter and gems, sheet 7 prices a full event day with setup and teardown, and sheet 8 checks whether an event paid.

Every figure is an example for you to overwrite. These are estimates, not tax or legal advice; use every product as its label directs. Every formula was recalculated and checked against an independent implementation before this shipped.

What is in it

8 calculators, one per sheet. Overwrite the blue cells with your own numbers and everything else follows — nothing is locked, there are no macros, and it opens in Excel, Numbers, LibreOffice and Google Sheets.

  • Hourly floor rate — What must an hour of painting earn to pay you and the business?
  • Supply cost per face — What do paint, brushes, sponges and wipes cost you per paid face?
  • Per hour vs per face — At a party, does an hourly rate or a per-face price keep more for you?
  • Party minimum and travel — What is the least a party can cost once setup, driving and supplies are in?
  • Festival booth break-even — At a festival, how many paid faces cover the booth fee and pay your floor?
  • Glitter and add-ons — What should glitter and gems cost the customer, once the extra minute is paid?
  • Event day with setup — What should a full event day cost once setup, teardown and driving are paid?
  • Did this event pay — Once the event is over, did it pay your floor?

Every formula was checked

This pack contains 73 formulas. Before it was published, every one of them was recalculated by a spreadsheet engine and compared against an independent implementation of the same arithmetic written in Python. All 73 agreed to within a cent, and the workbook carries a Verification sheet saying so.

That is an unusual thing to be able to claim about a spreadsheet, and it is the main reason to buy this one rather than download a free template. A formula that looks right and is wrong is worse than no formula at all, because you will act on it.

What each calculator assumes

There is a sheet listing this, because a calculator that hides its assumptions is just a number generator:

  • Every working week looks the same. A cancelled or rained-out slot is time you are at work and unpaid. The tax set-aside is a share you enter, not a computed tax.
  • Each supply lasts the faces you entered. Paint that dries out and the supplies used on free faces are charged to the paid faces, not left out. The chair time free faces take is not charged here: sheet 3 takes it out of the paid faces an hour. Use every product as its label directs; the sheet only counts cost.
  • Every design takes the minutes entered. Free faces take chair time but earn nothing, so per-face figures use paid faces only. On an hourly rate you are paid for the whole party; per face you are paid only for paid faces in the chair. Party setup and travel are on sheet 4.
  • Setup and driving hours are paid at your floor, the same as painting hours. The faces expected are your own estimate; supplies are charged on them at the sheet 2 figure.
  • Every paid face is sold at the one price entered. Hours open and setup are paid at your floor. Capacity counts paid faces only, from sheet 3, so the chair time free faces take is already out, and their supplies are in the sheet 2 figure.
  • Each add-on takes the same extra minutes. The minutes are paid at your floor because they are chair time another face could have used. Use every product as its label directs.
  • Setup, teardown and driving are paid at your floor. The faces expected are your own estimate; supplies are charged on them at the sheet 2 figure.
  • Business costs and unpaid hours are already inside the floor from sheet 1, so this sheet subtracts only the costs that came with the event. Tips are left out.

What this is not

Not financial, tax or legal advice, and not a recommendation to buy, sell, borrow or sign anything. These are calculators: they show what a choice costs, not which choice is right for you. Where a published rate or threshold is used it is the one current when the pack was built — those change, the arithmetic does not.

Honest about the format

One .xlsx workbook, 8 calculator sheets plus Start Here, Assumptions and Verification. Not a PDF, not a physical product, not a Notion template. Available immediately after purchase; nothing ships.
