Level: Suitable for older teens and adults with a B2 level.

Length: 2-3 hours. Some parts of the lesson materials are best done as individual study or homework.

Aims: To provide speaking, listening, reading and (optional) writing practice on topics connected with the theme of rain. While the materials are not targeted at a specific area of language, there are opportunities for learners to pick up vocabulary relating to rainy weather and to apply sentence structures arising from the text in part 3.

Description: The topic and activities are designed to promote mindful, experiential learning: part 1 is a task where learners watch a video of a walk in the rain and describe what they see/ hear/ smell. Parts 2, 3 and 4 examine the the theme of rainfall from different perspectives: social, scientific and artistic, using authentic texts and videos plus research data drawn from diverse fields. The mindfulness connection is made explicit in the final part of the lesson, as the RAIN technique is explored via a text-matching activity and a final discussion task.
