Sunshine and Stars Digital Quilt Pattern by Sheena Roberts of Green Man Quilts
This is a dramatic quilt which showcases a traditional block in a modern setting. It utilises some key design concepts of the modern movement – large areas of negative space, and nice clean lines.
The lovely thing about this design is that it can be completed in the “usual” way or as Quilt as You Go, thus allowing you a great many options in terms of quilting, no matter what size of sewing machine you have.
The blocks used are alternating Negative Space and Tangled Star blocks, linked with a narrow stem. The blocks are set asymmetrically within the quilt. The Tangled Star blocks are made using templates, and the templates are included within the pattern.
Modern designs look fabulous in solids or in low density or textured patterns – fabrics where the print is low key, perhaps in a variety of tones rather than different colours, and so looks basically plain but with a bit of pizzazz!
You can choose to make this quilt in a variety of sizes which will work for decorating a bed, snuggling under on the sofa or hanging on a wall.
